# Plans and limits

> What each SiteGPT plan includes, and how pages and messages are counted.

This page is the one place where plan limits are listed. For prices and the free trial, see [sitegpt.ai/pricing](https://sitegpt.ai/pricing).

Limits belong to the account that owns the chatbot. If you are a member of someone else's chatbot, their plan applies to that chatbot. Your own plan does not.

Enterprise limits are set for each customer. Talk to us through [sitegpt.ai/pricing](https://sitegpt.ai/pricing).

The WhatsApp add-on belongs to the chatbot owner's account. You buy one number for each chatbot that you connect to WhatsApp, from 1 to 25 numbers for each account. You cannot set fewer numbers than you have connected. If more numbers are connected than the add-on covers, the numbers connected first answer, and the newer numbers pause. A number that came with a chatbot transfer counts as the new owner's newest number at the time of the transfer. See [Connect WhatsApp](/docs/integrations/whatsapp.md).
On Enterprise, WhatsApp is part of the custom package that we scope with you.

The AI Email Support add-on also belongs to the chatbot owner's account. You buy one inbox for each email address, from 1 to 25 inboxes for each account. You cannot set fewer inboxes than are in use. If more inboxes are in use than the add-on covers, the inboxes that became yours first answer, and the newer inboxes pause. An inbox that came with a chatbot transfer counts as the new owner's newest inbox at the time of the transfer. AI email support is not available in HIPAA workspaces. See [Email](/docs/integrations/email.md) and [Email limits](#email-limits).

Team members who accepted an invite to a chatbot can sign in to the iPhone app on any plan. See [Use the SiteGPT iPhone app](/docs/guides/human-support/iphone-app.md).

### Free trial

Self-serve plans start with a free trial. See [sitegpt.ai/pricing](https://sitegpt.ai/pricing) for the trial terms. During the trial you get the full limits of the plan you chose. To end or extend a trial, see [Manage your plan and billing](/docs/guides/account/billing.md).

### Older plans

If you are on an older SiteGPT plan, your limits can be different from this table. Your **Usage** page always shows your real limits.

## How pages are counted

A page is the unit for the content your chatbots learn from.

* One page is 2,500 characters of text.
* Pages are counted per document and rounded up. A 5,000-character document is 2 pages. A 5,001-character document is 3 pages.
* Every file you upload counts as at least 1 page.
* All content types count the same way: website pages, files, text snippets, YouTube transcripts, and connected apps.
* Your pages are shared across all the chatbots you own.
* Custom responses also count. Each one is stored as a short text document.
* When you delete content, its pages become free again.

See your current page count on the **Usage** page.

## What happens at the page limit

* **New content is blocked.** When you add links or files, you cannot add more items than you have pages left. A website crawl reads no more URLs than you have pages left.
* **Documents past the limit are not trained.** Their status shows that the page limit was reached.
* **One large document can go over the limit.** The check uses your usage before the document is added.
* **Resync does not use more pages.** Resyncing content you already trained only updates it. Its page count changes if the document got longer or shorter.

To make room, delete content you do not need, or upgrade your plan. See [Keep your content up to date](/docs/guides/content/keep-content-up-to-date.md).

## How messages are counted

* Your message allowance is monthly. It is shared across all the chatbots you own.
* Both sides of a conversation count. A visitor's message is 1 message, and the chatbot's reply is 1 message. So one question and its answer use 2 messages.
* Usage resets on the 1st of each calendar month (UTC). The reset is not tied to your billing date.
* Unused messages do not carry over to the next month.
* Your chatbot can answer with GPT-4.1 mini or GPT-4.1. One GPT-4.1 message uses as much of your allowance as 10 GPT-4.1 mini messages. See [Choose a model](/docs/guides/answers/choose-a-model.md).
* You set how your allowance is split between the two models on the **Usage** page or the **Billing** page.

## What happens when messages run out

* **The chatbot switches models.** When the share for one model is used up, the chatbot answers with the other model while that model has messages left. This applies on your website, in your integrations, and through the API.
* **Your chatbots keep answering.** When both shares are used up, your chatbots still answer visitors on your website, in your integrations, and through the API. Exception: on older plans with fewer than 200 pages, the chat on your website and on the hosted chat page stops answering. Visitors then see "You have exceeded the allowed usage for your plan. If you are the owner of this chatbot, please upgrade to continue chatting."
* **The dashboard is covered.** When both shares are used up, every chatbot page in the dashboard is blurred and a card appears. The card says **Message Limit Reached!** and "This chatbot has received too many messages." It asks you to buy the **Extra Messages** add-on on the billing page.
* **Buy more messages.** Click **Go to Billing** on the card to open the **Billing** page. There you can buy the **Extra Messages** add-on. Each pack of the add-on gives 5,000 more messages every month.

## Chat message length

| What | Limit | What happens over the limit |
| - | - | - |
| A visitor message in the chat widget and on the hosted chat page | 4,000 characters | When the message has more than 3,600 characters, a count shows under the message box, for example `3,720 / 4,000`. When it has more than 4,000 characters, the count is red and starts with "Too long:", and the send button is turned off. A longer message that your page sends with the [widget SDK](/docs/developers/widget-sdk.md) is not sent. |
| Each of the two context strings that your page sets with the widget SDK | 2,000 characters | SiteGPT uses the first 2,000 characters and ignores the rest. The visitor sees no error. The browser console shows a warning when a string that you set is longer than 2,000 characters. With **Enable Page Context Awareness** on, the page's URL, title, and description go in front of the first string, and the 2,000 characters count them too. So the end of a long first string can be cut. The second string always has its own 2,000 characters. |
| A reply from your team in a Messenger conversation (from **Chat History**, the iPhone app, API v2, or MCP) | 2,000 characters | A longer reply is shortened for Messenger: the person gets the first 1,999 characters and "…". The transcript keeps the full reply. See [Messenger](/docs/integrations/messenger.md#reply-from-the-dashboard). |

The count uses characters as the browser counts them. Most emoji count as 2 characters. Messages through the API, the CLI, MCP, and integrations do not have the 4,000-character limit.

## Email limits

These limits apply to [email](/docs/integrations/email.md).

| Limit | Value |
| - | - |
| Inboxes (email addresses) | 1 to 25 for each account, one for each inbox of the AI Email Support add-on. The inboxes of all chatbots that you own count together. |
| Email name (after the @) | 3 to 30 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, and single hyphens. It cannot start or end with a hyphen. Reserved names, names that contain "sitegpt", and names with a well-known brand as a part are refused. |
| Name before the @ | 1 to 30 characters: lowercase letters, numbers, dots, hyphens, and underscores. It must start and end with a letter or a number, and cannot have two dots in a row. |
| Own sending domains | 1 for each chatbot. |
| Rules | 20 for each inbox. The text to match is 1 to 200 characters. |
| Text that the AI reads from one email | The first 8,000 characters of the new text, after SiteGPT removes the quoted earlier messages and the signature. |
| Attachments that SiteGPT keeps | Files up to 10 MB each, and up to 25 MB for each email. Larger files show by name only. The AI never reads attachments. |
| Emails from one sender | SiteGPT ignores an email when the same sender already sent 5 or more emails to the chatbot in the hour before it. |
| Emails in one conversation | SiteGPT ignores an email when the conversation already got 20 or more emails from the customer in the 24 hours before it. |
| AI footer | Up to 300 characters for each inbox. Most emoji count as 2 characters. An empty footer uses the default. |
| Emails under **Not answered** | Up to the 10 newest for each inbox. Emails that started no conversation are deleted after 7 days. |
| Gmail forwarding confirmation on the inbox card | Shows for 7 days after it arrives, or until you select **Done, hide this**. A newer confirmation starts the 7 days again. |
| Visitor answers to reply emails | 10 for each conversation in any hour. More answers in that hour are not added, and your team gets no alert for them. |

## When a subscription ends

If your subscription is cancelled and has ended, your limits drop to zero. Your chatbots stop answering, and you cannot add or resync content. You can still delete content and chatbots. SiteGPT schedules the chatbots and their data (conversations, documents, and leads) for deletion no earlier than 30 days after the subscription ends. At least seven days before the deletion date, SiteGPT emails the account owner that date. To keep your chatbots, subscribe again before that date. See [Manage your plan and billing](/docs/guides/account/billing.md).
